Former OP Pastor converts to Roman Catholicism
Church member Justin Andrusk has written a thought-provoking blog post responding to the reasons offered by a former Orthodox Presbyterian pastor (Mr. Jason Stewart) for converting to Roman Catholicism. I recommend Mr. Andrusk’s post to the interested reader, which can be found here: http://andrusk.com/?p=540
In recent decades there have been numerous formerly Evangelical and even Reformed Protestants “swimming the Tiber” into the Roman fold (for example, Scott Hahn, Gerry Matatics, etc.). As Protestants who are confessionally Reformed and Presbyterian, we would do well to understand how to counter the pretentious but seemingly-plausible claims of Rome. Below is a sampling of some good resources that can help you to fortify yourself against the smooth-talking deceptions of Romanist proselytizers and to share the gospel with your Roman Catholic friends and neighbors:
aomin.org – This is the website of Reformed Baptist apologist Dr. James R. White. Dr. White has done numerous debates with Roman Catholic apologists on many different topics, and his bookstore offers numerous helpful resources on Roman Catholicism. A few of his books are listed below.
Roman Catholicism: Evangelical Protestants Analyze What Divides and Unites Us, John Armstrong, General Editor (Chicago: Moody Press; copyright 1994 by The Moody Bible Institute of Chicago)
The Roman Catholic Controversy: Catholics & Protestants – Do the Differences Still Matter? by James R. White (Minneapolis, Minnesota: Bethany House Publishers, copyright 1996)
Scripture Alone: Exploring the Bible’s Accuracy, Authority, and Authenticity by James R. White (Minneapolis, Minnesota: Bethany House, copyright 2004)
Faith Alone: The Evangelical Doctrine of Justification by R.C. Sproul (Grand Rapids, Michigan: Baker Books, copyright 1995 by R.C. Sproul)
